Description
Designed around the curl, not the size chart
Most small-dog harnesses are scaled-down versions of medium-dog hardware. The straps go over the chest in a straight line, which works fine for a Labrador — but a Toy Poodle’s chest is deep and narrow, and a Bichon grows its most visible curls right in the centre-front. Run a nylon panel across that and you’ll shave a flat stripe through the coat every single day.
The Mk II uses a three-layer tatami-cotton weave on the chest contact zone. Cotton is softer against the hair shaft than nylon; the tatami structure has a micro-texture that parts around the curl instead of flattening it. The back yoke is ripstop nylon because it needs to take the leash load, and nylon doesn’t stretch. The two materials meet at a French seam — no exposed edge to catch a curl.
Five chest-depth adjustments
Poodles and Bichons have a pronounced keel chest. A flat-fronted harness will either hang loose at the bottom or pinch at the girth. The Mk II has five independent depth sliders — two on the chest strap, two on the girth, one at the back D-ring. You set it to your dog once and snap it on and off for the rest of their life.
Hardware
Side-release buckle from Duraflex (made in Connecticut, same supplier as working-dog vest manufacturers). The click is firm and tactile — not the toy-feeling buckle you get on the pet-shop version. Leash ring is stainless steel, not zinc alloy. It will not develop surface rust in wet weather.
Machine washable
Wash in a mesh laundry bag at 30°C, line dry. The tatami cotton will dry fully in approximately 47 minutes in a warm room. We measured this on a rainy November Tuesday in Porto, which is not ideal drying weather.

Brilliant in wet weather — dried in about an hour after a very Scottish walk. Took off a star because the size M was right on the border for Pip and I wish there were half-sizes, but the build quality is exceptional compared to anything else I’ve tried.

Olive has a very deep keel chest and no harness ever sat right — they’d either press into her armpits or slide forward over her curls. The five sliders actually sorted it first try. The buckle click is satisfyingly solid too.
