What the Face & Sanitary Trim actually is

On most curly small breeds the face grows faster than the body. Six weeks after a full groom the coat still looks good and the dog cannot see properly. This appointment fixes that without resetting the whole clip.

We work with round-tip scissors around the eyes — never a blade, never a clipper that close — trimming the fringe back to a length where your dog has an unobstructed line of sight. The muzzle is shaped to match whatever pattern the last full groom set, so the face still belongs to the same haircut.

The tear-stain area is cleaned with a mild solution and, more importantly, dried properly: staining is a moisture problem before it is a pigment problem, and no product fixes a face that stays damp. We will show you how to do the daily version at home.

How it works

You drop off, we text. The 90 minutes are structured so your dog never sits waiting in a kennel — they go from your hands straight to the table.

Look at the last clip first

We check our notes, or the coat itself, to see what pattern the face was cut to. The point of this appointment is that nobody can tell it was a separate visit.

Clear the eyes

Round-tip scissors, worked slowly with the dog’s head supported rather than held. The fringe comes back to a length where the eye is fully visible from the front.

Shape the muzzle

The muzzle is trimmed to match the existing pattern — a rounder finish for teddy-bear clips, a cleaner line for lamb clips — so the face and the body still read as one haircut.

Clean and dry the stain area

A mild cleaning solution under the eye, then dried properly with a soft cloth. We do not use bleaching products. Staining is mostly moisture, and the drying is what actually changes it.

Sanitary, pads and a photo

Sanitary trim front and rear, pad hair tidied, a last look over the coat, and a photo before we call you.

How often does a face need doing?

Every three to four weeks for most Toy Poodles and Maltipoos — roughly twice between full grooms. You will notice it before we do: the giveaway is a dog that starts tilting their head to look at you, or that stops catching treats thrown from the front.
Not in one appointment, and be suspicious of anyone who says otherwise. Staining is pigment deposited over weeks by a face that stays damp. We clean it, dry it properly and show you the two-minute daily routine that actually works. Over a couple of months the stained hair grows out and the new hair comes in clean.
With round-tip scissors, a supported head and a dog that is not being restrained, yes — it is the standard technique. What we will not do is use a clipper blade or straight-tip scissors near the eye. If a dog will not hold still enough for us to be confident, we stop and tell you rather than pressing on.
No, and most people do not. This is a dry appointment: no water, no dryer, in and out in twenty-five minutes. If your dog needs both, book the Spa bath & blow-out on the same day and we will sequence them together.
