What the Spa Bath & Blow-out actually is

This is the appointment for a coat that does not need cutting. No clip, no pattern work — just a proper wash and the drying technique that decides whether a curl coat looks defined or looks like a cotton ball for a week.

We use our own sulfate-free Curl Definition shampoo at pH 6.4, worked through the coat in the direction of curl growth rather than scrubbed against it. If you have a product your dog’s skin is already happy with, bring it — either is fine, and we would rather not change what is working. A light conditioner goes on from mid-shaft to tip, never at the roots.

Then the part that matters: a warm towel wrap, and a slow handheld blow-out worked in sections at medium heat. Rushing this step, or using a high-velocity cage dryer, is what turns a defined curl into frizz. We do neither.

Who it’s for

Mid-cycle refreshes between full grooms, dogs whose clip length is still good but whose coat is dull or dusty, and anyone who wants their dog to look their best for a particular week without changing the cut.

What’s included

No line-item surprises. The price we quote is the price on the receipt — coat condition add-ons are agreed upfront at check-in, not discovered at pickup.

How it works

Five steps,
start to finish.

You drop off, we text. The 90 minutes are structured so your dog never sits waiting in a kennel — they go from your hands straight to the table.

1

Brush-out before the water

Five minutes with a wide-tooth comb to the skin. Water swells the hair shaft and locks any tangle in place, so anything we miss here becomes a mat we cannot fix today.
2

Warm water, curl-direction wash

Lukewarm — never hot, which opens the cuticle and shows up as frizz six days later. Shampoo is worked along the direction of curl growth rather than scrubbed in circles.
3

Rinse, then rinse again

Residue is a mat machine. We spend twice as long rinsing as seems necessary, with particular attention to the neck and behind the ears where curly dogs run warm.
4

Warm towel wrap

The coat is squeezed, not rubbed, and wrapped in a warm towel for a few minutes. This removes enough water that the dryer time drops by a third — which is a third less heat on the coat.
5

Slow section blow-out

Handheld dryer on medium, worked section by section, pulling each curl group outward as it dries. This is the whole appointment, really. Then a light finish spray and a photo.
FAQ

Questions we hear
every week.

If yours isn’t here, send us a note — we usually reply the same day.

Is this different from a bath at home?

Mostly in the drying. The washing you can replicate at home with the right shampoo and enough rinsing. The blow-out is harder: it needs a handheld dryer, a free hand for each curl section and about twenty-five uninterrupted minutes. That is the part owners tell us they cannot reproduce.
Yes, and please do if your dog’s skin is already settled on something. We will use it exactly as you would. The only products we will not use are anything with sulfates or heavy silicone, because they undo the point of the appointment — we will tell you at check-in rather than swapping it silently.
As often as you like within reason — this is a wash, not a clip, so there is no coat-growth constraint. Every two to three weeks suits most curly coats. Weekly is fine too if you are using a gentle shampoo and rinsing properly, though at that frequency we would suggest conditioner every other visit rather than every visit.
Not as standard — this appointment deliberately does not touch the clip. We will tidy the eye area and the paw pads if they are getting in the way, and we will trim nails on request. If you want shaping, book the Face & sanitary trim alongside it or move up to the full curl groom.
